Day 4 of Doughnut Week! Yay! Recently on my facebook page I put out a request for doughnut suggestions, and "Apple Cider Doughnuts" came up. These sounded new and delicious!
Since I had never heard of these doughnuts before, I did some quick searching and found out that they are a New England thing, and have quite the cult following! I read through a few different recipes and this one from Smitten Kitchen seemed to combine everything that people wanted in a recipe: perfect texture, a nice apple cider flavour, and it gave two popular ways to finish them off.

After two days of deep frying, you might be wondering what has gotten into me? I mean really, me deep frying in my kitchen?? I used to think that was something that would never happen in my house!
Buuut then the pregnancy cravings hit. Well, the pregnancy craving. So far in my 19 weeks I have craved one thing and one thing only: doughnuts. Soft, delicious, still warm doughnuts.

One of my favourite types of doughnuts are old-fashioned doughnuts. I love the dense texture and how there are extra crevices to catch all of that tasty glaze. They are also perfect for breakfast since they are much more filling than a regular yeast-risen doughnut, and well, they just look so darn pretty (before you shove them into your face).

Here is a fun treat for your favourite four-legged friend, a 'pup'cake!
These are actually quite similar to a regular muffin, but without the extra sugar (which makes them tasty for us humans!). So be careful, your family might mistake them for a snack when they smell them come out of the oven :)

Right about now everyone who has a rhubarb plant in their back yard seems to be trying to get rid of their extra rhubarb since it is flourishing right now. And of course, I am more than happy to help take some of it off of their hands!
