Marble Cupcakes

One type of cupcake that I find myself making over and over again are Marble Cupcakes. They are so easy to make, and always produce rave reviews!

I use the Marble Cupcake recipe from the Martha Stewart's Cupcakes book, so this recipe and directions are adapted from Martha Stewart's Cupcakes book. This recipe makes about 14 - 16 cupcakes.

Marble Cupcakes
  • 1 3/4 cups cake flour
  • 2 tsps baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup butter (unsalted, room temperature)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  1. Line regular muffin tins with paper liners and preheat your oven to 350F
  2. Sift together the first 3 ingredients
  3. Mix together the milk and the heavy cream in a small bowl
  4. Cream the butter and the sugar together until completely mixed, then add the eggs individually until they are completely mixed in.  After the eggs are mixed in, add the vanilla and mix well
  5. Add the dry ingredients, alternating with additions of the milk mixture
  6. Add the cocoa to the boiling water, and stir until the mixture is fairly smooth
  7. Remove 1 cup of the batter, and then add it to the cocoa paste and mix
  8. Add one tablespoon of the white batter to each cup, followed by a teaspoon of the chocolate batter.  Finish off with another teaspoon of the white batter, and swirl with a toothpick.
  9. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until a toothpick poked into the center comes out nice and clean
  10. Let cool before removing from the cupcake tins
  11. Decorate with whatever you like! I prefer mine naked (no toppings at all!)
